Check how they fit you. At that pice you can get some nice hardtails, and I like Specialized, but it will come down to how they fit you.
If you want to check other options, check Cannondale, Merida, Giant.

Have you considered getting a full suspension bike? Only a thought – you don’t need it for XC…but would be easier on your body. If only 700 bucks look at used ones for Full susp.
Or on the hard tail side.
I think Specialized makes better MTN bikes than Trek.
There are other (better is relative) bikes in that price range ….if you want to buy online. Ebay for lots of choices in used.
Some have more travel front forks – some are lighter than others….some have better seat …..it;s relative to what you want or need. NOthing wrong with Specialized at all.

The specilized you have delema personally would reccomend the raliegh bikers at trekbikescom dont know what the specilized you have delema personally would reccomend the specilized sight is good cross country bike that is.
